New Kids on the Block

I am so excited. The announcement was made yesterday that the band is getting back together! Make fun of me all you want, but I love them! I still have a box of goodies including a paper cup and paper plate from my best friend Rachel's birthday party years ago. When I was in 6th grade they came to town for a concert and my parents said no because it was a school night. Yesterday after hearing the news, I called my mom and explained to her that she had the chance to redeem herself and take me when they go on tour again! She laughed. I guess everyone I told yesterday laughed, oh well. I know I'm crazy, but I LOVE THEM! If I have to get a passport and travel to Canada to see them perform, you know I'm there!

Back Blogged

So, it's been a while since I've blogged anything. I'm sorry to anyone out there that might be reading my blog. I have a ton to catch up on from the last little bit. Once I get some free time I will sit down and get caught up. My goal for this year is to get caught up with my actual scrapbooks. I have a lot of work to do. Since I've been working on those, I haven't put as much time into the blog. Hopefully later this week I will get a chance to sit down and do that! Have a great day.

Quilt Class

I've decided to take a quilting class from a woman at church who's been quilting almost her whole life. She has done some beautiful things, and is offering her knowledge as one of our enrichment activities for FREE! I'm so excited to learn her techniques and tips that might help me to be a better quilter. Tonight is our second class, and our homework was to buy our fabric this week so we could cut out our first couple blocks in the sampler. Here is my fabric, and I'll try to post my progress as I go!

Baby It's Cold Outside

So we set our thermostat at 70 in the winter because we have a really bad furnace and it doesn't heat the upstairs very well. So this morning when I woke up and noticed that we finally have inches of snow outside to go sledding I was really excited, until I felt how cold it was in the house. The other problem we have is that we don't have a flu cover, so if it's really windy outside, the pilot light blows out. Sure enough, it's out. So here is a picture of the thermostat this morning. 58 degrees!!!!!!! So I called Mike at work and he tried to walk me through lighting it again, (I've only done it a couple times, and I'm pretty nervous about playing with gas and flames, can you blame me?) I tried 3 times or was it 4? and nothing. I can't get it to light. I'm not even sure if I heard any gas being released. So Mike is on his way home now from work, I think. He is still a contract worker, and they just renewed his contract for another six months. During the time when they have to get all the paperwork situated, his pass doesn't work to get him into or out of the building. And on top of that, there is some online health certification course he has to take to get his thing renewed. So he's talking to his boss to figure out if they can get him out of the building to come home and then back into the building later. You might be thinking "take the kids somewhere warm until he gets home." That's a great idea! Except Mike took the van to work today, since he's only supposed to be there until noon, and I didn't have any plans this morning. So until his hopefully speedy and safe arrival, here we sit, bundled together on the couch. At least it's cozy! Here is a picture of our beautiful winter wonderland. I can never get a picture that captures the moment, but I love the snow covered neighborhood!

a great (stolen) quote

Why to blog?

"To you women of today, who are old or young, may I suggest to you that you write, that you keep journals, that you express your thoughts on paper. Writing is a great discipline. It is a tremendous education effort. It will assist you in various ways, and you will bless the lives of many--now and in the years to come, as you put on paper some of your experiences and some of your musings." --President Gordon B. Hinckley

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

I woke up this morning to a beautiful sight. I love when there is freshly fallen snow. Everything looks so bright and clean and new. I think it's just the perfect way to end one year and ring in the next. Everyone at this time of year makes resolutions and plans on how to be better and skinnier and richer, etc... For years I have fought the urge to do the same, but have finally given in, and will resolve to be better this year. I don't think I'll be posting my resolutions here, but I have a journal where I will be setting my goals and keeping track of my progress. Mike and I are however going to be making healthier choices this year, and will be losing weight and getting into shape. If i can convince him to take a picture with me, I think it would be great to post a before and after photo. Even if you my blog readers (if you really exist?) don't care, that's OK, but at least we'll have it for Mike and I to look back on. The other thoughts I've had are about the Savior. Everything so clean and white reminds me of Him. Each time I look at my children I am reminded of His love for us, and his sacrifice. The innocence in their little faces (most of the time) makes me so grateful for all of the blessings I have. When I was pregnant with Tyler I received a priesthood blessing and it stated that Heavenly Father was grateful to me for bringing one of His spirit children to earth to gain a body. I am so grateful for the love and trust that my Eternal Father has for me. So as I look out the window at this beautiful white scene, I will be forever grateful for my blessings, and for this time of the year when I can resolve to be a better person and start clean and fresh.

New Year Day

Today was a fun day. Mike and I sat the kids down and explained our new chore system and any over our expectations of them. It seemed to go...
